Indian Startup Exponent Energy Achieves 15-Minute EV Charging With Paired Tech
Exponent Energy pairs proprietary battery packs with specialized chargers to fully charge commercial electric vehicles in just 15 minutes. The startup plans to scale this locked-in hardware ecosystem using a new $13 million funding round.
Bangalore-based startup Exponent Energy introduces a new system that delivers 15-minute rapid charging for electric vehicles. The company relies on a paired approach, combining its proprietary battery pack, called the e^pack, with its own specialized charging infrastructure, known as the e^pump. By controlling both sides of the charging process, Exponent manages energy flow safely and rapidly, even in high-temperature environments.
The business model targets commercial fleet operators by selling the integrated battery packs directly to OEMs while generating recurring revenue through its charging network. Exponent recently launches its first partnership with Altigreen, producing a three-wheeled cargo vehicle that achieves a complete 0% to 100% charge in exactly 15 minutes. However, this extreme speed only works when the specific battery connects to the specific charger, taking about 60 minutes on standard stations.
To expand this dual-sided network, Exponent raises a $13 million Series A round led by Lightspeed. This approach mirrors the ecosystem strategy of companies like Gogoro, ensuring that the hardware and infrastructure scale simultaneously. The startup focuses heavily on the Indian market, where commercial EV fleets demand minimal downtime to remain profitable and efficient.
