Instagram officially removes its Following tab, a feature that evolves into a notorious tool for digital stalking rather than a helpful way to discover new accounts. The company states that the Explore tab now serves as the primary destination for finding new people, places, and hashtags, rendering the Following tab largely obsolete.

The feature gains a negative reputation over the years because it exposes exactly what other users like and follow in real-time. This unwanted transparency leads to outed private activities, exposed "micro-cheating," awkward realizations about colleagues, and even broken friendships when people lie about being too busy to respond to messages.

Very few people actually use the Following tab regularly, and many users never even know it exists. After this removal, clicking the Heart button only shows a user's own activity, effectively ending an era of easily trackable online behavior on the platform.
