Intel and AMD Suspend All Chip Shipments to Russia and Belarus
Intel and AMD officially halt all processor sales to Russia and Belarus in compliance with US sanctions against the invasion of Ukraine. TSMC also joins the sanctions, effectively cutting off Russia from global chip manufacturing.
Intel and AMD confirm they suspend all chip sales to Russia and Belarus in response to United States government export restrictions. Although the new sanctions primarily target military and dual-use technologies, both companies choose to halt shipments of all products, including consumer-focused processors like Core and Ryzen chips.
Intel releases a statement condemning the invasion of Ukraine and confirming the suspension of all shipments to customers in both countries. AMD similarly cites the sanctions placed on Russia by the United States and other nations as the reason for halting its sales and distribution operations in the region.
The impact of these sanctions extends beyond Intel and AMD, as TSMC's participation effectively prevents Russia from manufacturing its own homegrown chips. Other major industry players like Samsung, Micron, and SK hynix also face these restrictions, while the US Department of Commerce adds 49 Russian companies to its Entity List to further tighten the export controls.
