Intel Breaks Drone Flight World Record at PyeongChang Opening Ceremony
Intel sets a new Guinness World Record by flying 1,218 Shooting Star drones simultaneously during the PyeongChang 2018 Opening Ceremony. The spectacular display forms Olympic rings and various sports animations to kick off the Winter Games.
Intel makes history at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 by flying 1,218 Shooting Star drones simultaneously, officially setting a new Guinness World Records title for the most unmanned aerial vehicles airborne at once. This spectacular performance serves as the first-ever drone light show at a Winter Olympics opening ceremony, easily surpassing Intel's previous record of 500 drones flown in Germany in 2016.
The record-breaking flight features custom animations designed specifically for the event, including formations of various winter sports and the iconic Olympic rings. Intel Shooting Star drones are uniquely built for entertainment purposes and feature advanced LED lights capable of producing more than 4 billion color combinations to create almost any animation in the night sky.
Although the world record flight is prerecorded for the broadcast, Intel provides live drone light shows during the nightly victory ceremonies throughout the Games. This partnership highlights Intel's commitment to enhancing the Olympic experience through advanced technology, with plans to continue bringing these spectacular aerial displays to the Olympic Games through 2024.
