Inworld AI Secures $50 Million to Build Intelligent Virtual Characters

Inworld AI raises a $50 million Series A round to develop AI-powered virtual characters for video games and metaverse platforms. The Disney-backed startup aims to replace scripted non-playable characters with dynamic personalities.

Inworld AI secures $50 million in a Series A funding round led by Intel Capital and Section 32 to advance its platform for creating AI-powered virtual characters. The startup provides tools that integrate with popular game engines like Unreal Engine and Unity to help developers build non-playable characters with distinct personalities, memories, and human-like behaviors.

The company aims to solve the problem of static, fully scripted characters in modern video games and virtual worlds by making interactions more engaging and lifelike. Beyond the gaming industry, Inworld also targets broader entertainment and marketing campaigns with its dynamic digital representatives.

This new investment brings Inworld's total raised capital to $70 million and follows a period of rapid growth for the startup. Since its seed round in March, Inworld launches its first product, joins the 2022 Disney Accelerator program, and hires Matrix visual effects pioneer John Gaeta as its chief creative officer.
