The company states that the docking station malfunctions and poses a short circuit hazard in very rare cases where the robot vacuum picks up and deposits liquids into the unit.
The issue affects approximately 222,000 units globally, with around 210,000 of those located in North America. iRobot emphasizes that its vacuums are designed exclusively for dry dirt and debris, and users should never operate the devices to clean up liquid spills.
To address the potential safety risk, iRobot sends emails and in-app notifications to alert users about the malfunction. The company offers a free replacement power cord or an entirely new docking station to any customer whose device matches the affected serial numbers.
