Kaia Health raises $10 million in Series A funding to expand its digital therapeutics app that targets chronic musculoskeletal pain. Instead of relying on traditional painkillers or expensive surgeries, the startup provides a mobile-based alternative that delivers multimodal mind-body therapy directly to patients' smartphones.
The application uses advanced computer vision technology to function as a fully autonomous physical coach. By monitoring users through their smartphone cameras, the AI tracks exercise repetitions and provides real-time vocal feedback to correct posture and motion, effectively replacing the need for costly in-person physiotherapy sessions.
Founder Konstantin Mehl aims to democratize access to these proven treatments, noting that currently only two percent of chronic pain patients receive proper therapy while the rest are prescribed ineffective acute treatments. By making this affordable digital solution widely available, Kaia Health actively works to reduce the healthcare system's financial burden and combat the dangerous over-prescription of opioid painkillers.
