Kayhan Space is tackling the growing problem of space traffic by automating collision warnings for satellites in low Earth orbit. As the number of active satellites and pieces of space debris increases rapidly, the traditional method of relying on phone calls and manual data sharing with Space Command is no longer a realistic way to prevent accidents. The startup's modern data-crunching techniques replace this slow process with a fast, web-accessible platform called Pathfinder.
The company addresses the dangerous rise in conjunctions, which occur when orbits overlap and create a risk of collision. Co-founder Araz Feyzi notes that while satellite-on-satellite conjunctions currently make up less than ten percent of the total, the sheer volume of tracked objects is pushing this paradigm toward a much riskier environment. Furthermore, the warning time before a potential catastrophic event is shrinking, making quick and accurate data essential for safe operations.
Automating this process is crucial because last-minute emergency maneuvers waste precious fuel and create unnecessary stress for satellite operators. By providing timely, automated alerts, Kayhan Space allows operators to make tiny, efficient impulse adjustments hours in advance rather than executing drastic emergency burns. The founders, who originally met after moving to the U.S. from Iran, are currently raising a new funding round to scale this vital orbital infrastructure.
