Kia shares teaser images of the EV6, its first dedicated battery-electric vehicle built on the new Electric-Global Modular Platform shared with Hyundai. The EV6 is a four-door crossover that features a low front end, a coupe-like roofline, and segmented LED headlights, replacing the traditional grille found on gas-powered cars. These design elements give the public a first look at Kia's new visual language for its upcoming electric vehicles.
Alongside the vehicle reveal, Kia introduces a straightforward naming convention for its future electric models. All dedicated battery-electric vehicles now carry an "EV" prefix followed by a number that indicates the vehicle's position in the overall lineup, placing the EV6 comfortably in the middle of the upcoming portfolio.
The EV6 represents the tangible start of Plan S, a broad corporate strategy that sees Kia dropping "motor company" from its name to focus on electrification, mobility services, and autonomous technology. The company backs this ambitious pivot with a goal of launching 11 EVs by 2025 to capture 6.6% of the global market and sell 500,000 electric vehicles annually by 2026.
