The iconic Meyers Manx dune buggy makes its official return as an all-electric vehicle in 2023. Venture capitalist Phillip Sarofim and automotive designer Freeman Thomas revive the classic 1960s design to bring back a symbol of California optimism and surf culture. The new owners purchase the company from original creator Bruce Meyers in 2020 with a clear mission to modernize the beloved buggy while preserving its pure, fun spirit.
The Meyers Manx 2.0 maintains the exact dimensional footprint of the original classic, but features a fully re-engineered exterior and interior. Aside from the two signature round headlight housings, every component sees a modern upgrade to accommodate the new electric powertrain. Buyers choose between a 20 kWh battery pack that delivers 150 miles of range or a larger 40 kWh option that provides an estimated 300 miles of driving distance.
A pair of rear-wheel-mounted electric motors gives the lightweight EV impressive performance, pushing the heavier battery version from zero to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. The company keeps production intentionally low volume and plans to launch a beta program of just 50 vehicles in 2023 before expanding further. Prospective buyers can apply for this initial limited run, and the company plans to reveal additional pricing and specifications later this month at The Quail Motorsports Gathering.
