The iconic California dune buggy is making a comeback as an all-electric vehicle with modern engineering and retro styling. The company plans to release 50 beta units in 2023 before a wider public launch.
The iconic Meyers Manx dune buggy makes its official return as an all-electric vehicle in 2023. Venture capitalist Phillip Sarofim and automotive designer Freeman Thomas revive the classic design to bring back the fun and simplicity of 1960s California optimism. The new version maintains the original's dimensional footprint while completely re-engineering the internals, keeping only the iconic round headlight housings from the original model.
Buyers have the choice between two battery options for the Manx 2.0. A 20 kWh battery provides an estimated 150 miles of range, while a larger 40 kWh battery extends that figure to around 300 miles. The vehicle weighs a lightweight 1,500 to 1,650 pounds depending on the battery pack, and a pair of rear-wheel-mounted electric motors delivers impressive acceleration that takes the buggy from zero to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds.
The company takes a cautious approach to production by starting small. The first 50 vehicles available in 2023 serve as beta cars for a special application-based program. The company plans to share additional details and pricing information during the official public launch at The Quail Motorsports Gathering in Carmel, California later this month.
