LinkedIn Adds "Seems Like AI Slop" Button to Combat Low-Quality Content
LinkedIn introduces a new reporting button that allows users to flag posts that seem like AI-generated "slop." The feature appears in the three-dots menu on posts, and when a user clicks it, LinkedIn hides the post and thanks them for their feedback. The company uses this data to tune its models and improve the overall quality of user feeds.
The move comes as AI-generated content floods the platform at an alarming rate. AI detector Pangram recently finds that 41 percent of longform LinkedIn posts appear entirely AI-generated. Chief Product Officer Hari Srinivasan calls AI slop a "top priority" and says the company genuinely cares about addressing the problem.
Alongside the new button, LinkedIn deploys new classifiers to identify AI-generated or low-quality content and reduce its appearance in suggested posts and content from outside a user's network. The company also tests a feature that warns users when their own posts come across as inauthentic. In an ironic twist, LinkedIn removes its own AI tool that previously helps users "enhance" their writing.
