LinkedIn and DeepMind Co-Founders Launch Inflection AI to Revolutionize Human-Computer Speech

Reid Hoffman and Mustafa Suleyman team up to form Inflection AI, a new startup focused on enabling humans to talk to computers using everyday language. The company aims to fix the limitations of current AI assistants by keeping a small, focused team of industry veterans.

LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman and DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman unite to launch Inflection AI, a new startup dedicated to helping humans talk to computers using everyday language. Suleyman takes the role of CEO while fellow DeepMind veteran Karén Simonyan joins as chief scientist. The company plans to keep its team relatively small to maintain focus and speed as it develops its artificial intelligence software.

The founders predict that conversing with computers in ordinary language will likely become a reality within the next five years. This partnership builds on a nearly decade-long relationship between Hoffman and Suleyman, who previously stepped back from DeepMind in 2019 and later left his role at Google earlier this January to work alongside Hoffman at Greylock Partners.

Despite the impressive pedigree of its leadership, many details about Inflection AI remain unclear, including its specific target audience and a timeline for its first products. However, the founders address a widespread issue in the tech industry, as existing AI assistants still lack true cleverness. Overcoming this hurdle could significantly improve everyday technology, ranging from smartphones to next-generation robots.
