LinkedIn Co-Founder and DeepMind Veterans Launch Inflection AI Startup
Reid Hoffman and Mustafa Suleyman team up to launch Inflection AI, a startup focused on advancing natural language processing to improve human-computer interaction. The new venture aims to allow users to communicate with machines using everyday conversational language.
LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman, and former DeepMind researcher Karén Simonyan announce the launch of their new machine learning startup, Inflection AI. The company focuses specifically on natural language processing to fundamentally redefine how humans interact with computers. Suleyman explains that instead of forcing people to learn machine languages, this new paradigm allows machines to understand everyday human language.
The founders aim to make artificial intelligence more seamless in consumer products by enabling users to relay their thoughts and ideas to computers just as they would to another person. Modern neural networks trained on massive amounts of text and speech already power smart speakers like Amazon Alexa, but Inflection AI wants to push these digital experiences even further. Simonyan, who previously worked on major DeepMind projects like AlphaZero and AlphaFold, leads the technical side as chief scientist.
Greylock, a top technology venture capital fund where Hoffman serves as a general partner and Suleyman as a venture partner, provides the financial backing for the startup. Both men continue their roles at Greylock while Suleyman acts as the CEO of Inflection AI. The exact financial details of the backing remain undisclosed, though the partnership signals strong support for their vision of revolutionizing human-machine communication.
