LinkedIn Co-Founder and DeepMind Veterans Launch Inflection AI

Reid Hoffman and Mustafa Suleyman team up to launch Inflection AI, a startup focused on advancing natural language processing to revolutionize human-computer interaction. The new venture aims to create technology that allows machines to understand human language seamlessly.

LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman, and former DeepMind researcher Karén Simonyan officially launch a new machine learning startup named Inflection AI. The company focuses on natural language processing to fundamentally redefine how humans interact with computers. By training modern neural networks on vast amounts of speech and text, the team hopes to shift the computing paradigm so that machines understand human language rather than forcing people to learn machine code.

Inflection AI aims to make artificial intelligence feel completely seamless in consumer products by allowing users to relay thoughts and ideas using natural, conversational language. Suleyman states that these new language capabilities eventually revolutionize the entire digital experience, moving beyond the current capabilities of smart speakers and AI assistants. The startup receives financial backing from Greylock, a top technology venture capital fund where both Hoffman and Suleyman hold partner positions.

Simonyan takes on the role of chief scientist, bringing valuable experience from his previous work on major DeepMind projects like AlphaZero and AlphaFold. Suleyman leads the upstart as CEO while continuing his work at Greylock, though his past at DeepMind includes controversy over a medical app that obtained millions of UK patient records without explicit consent. The financial details of the new venture remain undisclosed as the team begins building out their vision for the future of human-machine communication.
