Logitech acquires Streamlabs, a popular software tool used by game streamers to add overlays like donation alerts and sponsor logos to their broadcasts, for roughly $89 million. The deal also includes up to $29 million in additional bonus payments if the Streamlabs team achieves significant revenue growth targets. This strategic move gives the hardware maker a proven software solution to pair with its streaming-specific peripherals.
Streamlabs currently boasts an impressive user base, with about 1.6 million streamers utilizing the tool each month. Since its beta launch in January 2018, users have streamed a massive 161 million hours through the platform. Additionally, the company operates a mobile streaming app that currently attracts around 480,000 users across Android and iOS devices.
The acquisition aligns perfectly with Logitech's ongoing push into the live streaming market, where it already sells purpose-built hardware like webcams with automatic background removal. Streamlabs founder Ali Moiz confirms that the core streaming tools stay completely free for users. Furthermore, the company continues to provide full support for all existing platforms, ensuring a seamless transition for its dedicated community of content creators.
