London-based startup Flexciton raises £2.5 million in a funding round led by Backed VC, with additional participation from Join Capital and Entrepreneur First. The company develops an AI-driven solution to optimize how manufacturers plan and schedule complex, multi-step production lines. By tapping into the Industry 4.0 trend, Flexciton aims to replace the traditional, highly manual planning processes that still burden modern factories.

Co-founder Jamie Potter explains that creating a production plan dictates everything in a factory, where a bad plan leads to late orders and destroyed margins while a good plan saves millions of pounds annually. Human planners typically rely on past experience to create merely adequate plans, but finding the truly optimal plan is one of the hardest mathematical problems in the real world. Flexciton's AI steps in to learn from a factory's specific data, understand its unique operations, and search through trillions of options to find the most efficient schedule.

The startup already generates revenue by serving complicated factories in the textiles, food, automotive, and semiconductor sectors, where it delivers double-digit performance gains. To support its advanced technology, Flexciton employs a highly expert team that has published over 140 peer-reviewed academic papers on industrial optimization and AI.
