Lucid Introduces Sapphire Brand With 1200-HP Three-Motor EV

Lucid unveils its new high-performance Sapphire brand with a $249,000 version of the Air sedan featuring a three-motor powertrain. The vehicle delivers over 1,200 horsepower and achieves zero to 60 mph in under two seconds.

Lucid launches a new high-performance luxury brand called Sapphire, debuting the $249,000 Lucid Air Sapphire at Monterey Car Week. The vehicle features exclusive styling elements like a unique Sapphire paint color, 18-way power sport seats in black leather, and a themed on-screen display. This new brand represents the company's push into the ultra-luxury performance EV market.

The standout feature is a three-motor powertrain that combines a new twin-motor rear-drive unit with a single front motor to produce over 1,200 horsepower. Upgraded battery systems and advanced cooling technology allow the sedan to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in under two seconds and complete a quarter-mile in under nine seconds. Lucid plans to release the final horsepower figures and instrumented performance demonstrations at a later date.

Beyond raw power, the three-motor setup enables rear torque vectoring to pivot the rear of the vehicle and improve cornering balance. The Sapphire model also includes stiffer springs, unique damper settings, carbon ceramic brakes, and specialized tuning for traction and stability control systems. These hardware and software upgrades work together to deliver a highly dynamic driving experience that sets the Sapphire apart from standard Air variants.
