Lyft Teams Up With Segway Ninebot to Launch Heavy-Duty Scooters
Lyft partners with Segway Ninebot to deploy a new generation of rugged electric scooters designed to withstand heavy wear and tear. The upgraded vehicles feature longer battery life, larger wheels, and eventually swappable batteries.
Lyft partners with Segway Ninebot to introduce a more durable electric scooter built specifically to handle the heavy wear and tear of shared fleets. The new Model Max features larger air-filled wheels, a wider baseboard, and a significantly improved battery that lasts up to 37.5 miles on a single charge compared to the previous 15-mile limit.
The company plans to deploy these upgraded scooters across its markets during the latter half of the first quarter or early second quarter of this year. Lyft also prepares to roll out Segway-Ninebot scooters equipped with swappable batteries, a strategic move designed to reduce vehicle downtime and increase overall availability for riders.
This manufacturing shift comes after Xiaomi sends a cease-and-desist letter to Lyft regarding the use of its scooters, prompting Lyft to halt adding any new Xiaomi vehicles to its fleet. Despite Xiaomi holding a minority stake in Segway-Ninebot, the two companies operate independently, and Lyft joins other major micromobility brands like Lime, Spin, and JUMP in relying on Segway-Ninebot hardware.
