Leading tech companies are showcasing their first 5G smartphones at Mobile World Congress, promising faster speeds and new capabilities. The early lineup includes innovative foldable designs from Huawei and Samsung alongside more traditional models.
Fifth-generation wireless technology dominates this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, with telecommunications companies and smartphone makers eagerly showcasing their latest 5G devices. This new network standard promises significantly faster download speeds and lower latency, which enhances everyday mobile browsing and unlocks advanced capabilities for autonomous vehicles and the internet of things.
Huawei generates the most buzz at the trade show with its Mate X, a foldable smartphone that transforms from a 6.6-inch phone into an 8-inch tablet and uses the company's own Balong 5000 chipset. Samsung also makes waves by confirming a 5G version of its newly announced Galaxy S10, while simultaneously developing a 5G variant of its Galaxy Fold device.
Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi introduces the Mi MIX 3, a 5G phone powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 processor that hits the market in May after three years of development. Additionally, LG unveils the V50 ThinQ, which features a 6.4-inch OLED screen and a triple-camera system built specifically for content creation on high-speed networks.
