Major Tech Giants Impose Sweeping Voluntary Sanctions on Russia

The world's five largest technology companies—Alphabet, Apple, Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft—impose significant, largely voluntary sanctions on Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine. Google restricts the use of Google Pay for sanctioned banks, halts online advertising sales in Russia, and blocks Russian state media outlets RT and Sputnik from earning monetization revenue on YouTube. Apple takes even stricter measures by completely suspending all product sales in Russia, limiting Apple Pay services, and banning RT and Sputnik from the App Store outside of Russian borders.
