Hackers replace the standard web pages with ominous warnings written in Ukrainian, Russian, and Polish, claiming that all personal data is uploaded to the public network and that files on the computers are destroyed.
The threatening message tells Ukrainian citizens to be afraid and expect the worst for their past, present, and future. In response, a spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry states that IT specialists are actively working to restore the affected systems and that the cyberpolice have officially launched an investigation into the breach.
While Ukrainian officials in Kyiv stop short of assigning immediate blame for the incident, suspicions quickly fall on Russia due to a history of similar cyber operations by Russian hacking groups like Sandworm. This digital assault takes place during a period of extreme geopolitical tension, as approximately 100,000 Russian troops supported by tanks and artillery currently gather at the Ukrainian border.
