Massive Twitch Hack Leaks Source Code and Streamer Payouts
A major cyberattack exposes Twitch's internal source code, creator earnings, and unreleased Amazon projects. The hacking group promises additional leaks are on the way.
A hacking group breaches Twitch and leaks a massive 126GB cache of data, claiming to possess the entirety of the streaming platform. The leaked files include proprietary source code for the website, mobile, desktop, and console clients, along with internal Amazon Web Services tools. Twitch confirms the breach but remains tight-lipped about the specific scope of the compromised information.
The leak reveals creator payout figures from 2019 to the present for nearly 2.4 million streamers, highlighting the earnings of top personalities. Additionally, the attackers expose proprietary SDKs, internal security tools, and an unreleased Steam competitor from Amazon Game Studios codenamed Vapour. The hackers frame this release as "part one" of a larger planned dump.
While user passwords and banking details do not appear in the current leak, Twitch users still face potential risks and should enable two-factor authentication immediately. The attackers cite the platform's "disgusting toxic cesspool" as a motivation, potentially linking the attack to recent hate raid protests. Security experts question how such a massive breach occurs under Amazon's extensive cloud infrastructure.
