Meta Brings Live AI Video and Real-Time Translation to Ray-Ban Smart Glasses
Meta releases a major firmware update for its Ray-Ban smart glasses that enables continuous AI conversations and live video analysis. The update also introduces real-time language translation and music recognition features.
Meta releases firmware v11 for its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, bringing highly anticipated "live AI" capabilities to users in the United States and Canada. This new feature allows wearers to maintain continuous, flowing conversations with Meta AI without repeatedly using a wake word, enabling them to ask follow-up questions or seamlessly change topics just like a natural human interaction.
The update also activates real-time AI video, a feature that lets the glasses analyze whatever the user looks at through the front-facing camera. Wearers can ask questions about their surroundings, positioning Meta as one of the first tech giants to successfully bring live visual AI to consumer smart glasses ahead of upcoming competing products from Google.
Additionally, firmware v11 adds live translation for real-time speech between English and Spanish, French, or Italian, playing the translated audio through the open-ear speakers while displaying a transcript on a paired phone. The update even includes Shazam integration for song identification, though Meta cautions that these new AI features are still a work in progress and may occasionally make mistakes.
