Meta Commits Up to $72 Billion to AI Infrastructure in 2025
Meta plans to more than double its capital expenditures to as much as $72 billion in 2025 to build massive AI data centers, with similarly massive spending expected for 2026.
Meta plans to spend up to $72 billion on AI infrastructure in 2025, marking a $30 billion increase from the previous year. This massive investment focuses on building data centers and servers to support the company's expanding artificial intelligence efforts. Chief Financial Officer Susan Li emphasizes that developing top-tier AI infrastructure serves as a core advantage for creating the best AI models and product experiences.
The tech giant is constructing enormous "titan clusters" to handle this compute load, including the Prometheus supercluster in Ohio and the Hyperion cluster in Louisiana. The Ohio facility is on track to reach one gigawatt of compute power by 2026, while the Louisiana site features a footprint the size of Manhattan and is designed to scale up to five gigawatts over time. Meta is also exploring partnerships with financial institutions to co-develop these massive data center projects.
This unprecedented buildout requires enormous amounts of electricity and water, which already impacts nearby communities. For example, a Meta data center project in Newton County, Georgia, reportedly causes local water taps to run dry for some residents. As the compute arms race escalates across the tech industry, Meta shows no signs of slowing down its aggressive physical expansion into 2026 and beyond.
