Meta Debuts Standalone AI App to Rival ChatGPT With Personalized Data
Meta releases a dedicated AI app that leverages user data from its social platforms to offer highly personalized responses. The application also features a social Discover feed where users can share their AI interactions.
Meta launches a standalone AI app that allows users to access its assistant outside of WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. The company unveils the application at its LlamaCon event, positioning it as a direct competitor to the ChatGPT app. Unlike other AI assistants, Meta's app draws upon the extensive profile and engagement data that users have already shared across the company's social media platforms.
This deep integration enables the AI to deliver highly personalized responses to users in the U.S. and Canada. People can also explicitly provide the AI with specific personal details, such as dietary restrictions, which the system remembers for future conversations and recommendations. However, this heavy reliance on personal data raises potential privacy considerations given that targeted advertising remains the core of Meta's business model.
The new application also introduces a Discover feed where users can optionally share their AI interactions with friends. This social feature aims to amplify generative AI trends by allowing people to post things like AI-generated emoji descriptions. While sharing to this feed requires explicit user consent, the addition of a social layer represents Meta's unique attempt to blend artificial intelligence with its traditional social networking roots.
