Meta Expands AI-Generated Video Feed Vibes to European Users
Meta brings Vibes, its TikTok-like feed filled entirely with AI-generated short videos, to Europe six weeks after its U.S. debut. The launch contradicts the company's earlier promises to crack down on unoriginal content.
Meta launches Vibes, a short-form video feed filled entirely with AI-generated content, for users in Europe through its Meta AI app. The feature mimics platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels, but every video users scroll through is created by artificial intelligence. This European rollout occurs just six weeks after the initial debut in the United States and shortly after OpenAI launches its own AI video platform called Sora.
The Vibes experience allows users to generate their own short videos using text prompts or remix existing content from other creators. Users can layer music, adjust visual styles, and share their AI creations directly to the Vibes feed or cross-post them to Instagram and Facebook Stories and Reels. Meta explains that the feed learns user preferences over time to deliver a more personalized stream of this algorithmic media.
The launch draws significant criticism from users who openly label the content as "AI slop," a popular term for low-quality artificial media. This aggressive push into AI-generated social content directly contradicts Meta's earlier stance this year, when the company advises creators to focus on authentic storytelling and promises to tackle unoriginal content. Despite this apparent hypocrisy, Meta insists the feature is a massive success, noting that media generation in its AI app jumps more than tenfold since its launch.
