Meta Forms New AI Product Group to Rival Tech Competitors
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announces a new internal team dedicated to building generative AI tools for the company's social media apps. The move positions Meta to compete directly with Microsoft, Google, and Snap in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence space.
Meta creates a new product group focused entirely on generative AI, bringing together several teams across the company under Chief Product Officer Chris Cox. This new unit aims to build creative and expressive tools powered by machine learning techniques that generate text, images, and video similar to human output.
The restructuring comes as major tech companies aggressively push to integrate advanced AI models into their consumer products. Competitors like Microsoft and Google are launching AI-powered chatbots, while Snap recently announced a ChatGPT integration for its Snapchat app.
Meta recently introduced its own large language model called LLaMA, which offers researchers a smaller and less expensive alternative to massive AI systems. By consolidating its AI efforts into this dedicated team, Meta shows it refuses to let rivals surpass it in the competitive race to develop futuristic AI experiences for apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram.
