Meta Launches Personalized Year-End Recaps for Facebook and Instagram
Meta introduces shareable "Year Together" cards on Facebook and "Playback" stories on Instagram to help users reflect on 2021. These customizable features join a growing trend of digital platforms offering personalized end-of-year summaries.
Meta debuts personalized "Year in Review" features for both Facebook and Instagram, giving users a new way to reflect on 2021. On Facebook, users access a "Year Together" card that highlights their most meaningful friends, feelings, and places from the past year. This shareable in-feed experience remains available globally until December 30th.
Instagram introduces a similar feature called "Playback," which allows users to curate up to 10 stories from their archive into a custom end-of-year time capsule. To access this feature, users need to have posted more than three stories this year or have their Stories Archive turned on. The platform suggests stories for inclusion, but users maintain full control to customize their final selection before sharing.
Both features are fully customizable, letting users add or remove content before posting. These launches reflect a broader trend in the tech industry, as companies like Reddit and Snapchat release their own personalized recaps to mimic the massive success of Spotify Wrapped. Meta rolls these features out globally over the next few days.
