Meta Unveils $1,499 Quest Pro Headset and Workplace VR Partnerships

Meta reveals its high-end Quest Pro headset at Connect 2022, partnering with Microsoft to bring productivity apps to virtual reality. The company also announces new business-focused subscriptions and shares that its app store has generated over $1.5 billion.

Meta unveils the Meta Quest Pro, a high-end mixed reality headset that costs $1,499.99 and ships this month. Unlike the affordable Quest 2, this premium device showcases the massive financial investments Meta pours into its Reality Labs division. The company also surprises attendees by announcing that virtual avatars will finally receive legs.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella joins Meta's Mark Zuckerberg to announce a major partnership bringing workplace tools to VR. Users will soon access Windows apps, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and progressive web versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook directly on their Quest headsets. Microsoft Teams is also getting a custom VR integration featuring virtual avatars.

Meta focuses heavily on the enterprise market to justify the premium price tag of the Quest Pro. The company reveals that it deploys 60,000 Quest 2 headsets through a partnership with Accenture and plans to launch a "Meta Quest for Business" subscription next year. Additionally, Meta shares that its Quest Store generates over $1.5 billion in app and game sales, though this barely offsets the $2.8 billion the company invests in VR each quarter.
