Meta Updates Smart Glasses with Live Conversation Boost and Visual Spotify Playback

Meta rolls out a practical conversation-boosting feature for its Ray-Ban and Oakley smart glasses alongside a new tool that plays Spotify music based on what the user sees.

Meta introduces a new conversation-focus feature for its Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta HSTN smart glasses that helps wearers hear better in noisy environments. The technology uses the open-ear speakers to amplify the voice of the person speaking directly to the user. Wearers easily adjust the amplification level by swiping the right temple of the glasses or by changing the device settings to match specific surroundings like busy restaurants or commuter trains.

The smart glasses also receive a unique Spotify integration that plays songs matching the user's current view. For example, looking at an album cover prompts the glasses to play a track from that artist, while looking at a holiday setup triggers festive music. Although this visual-to-audio feature feels more like a gimmick, it clearly shows how Meta connects visual input with practical app actions.

Both features arrive as part of the v21 software update, though their availability varies by region. The conversation-boosting tool launches exclusively in the U.S. and Canada, while the Spotify feature reaches a much wider global market. Early Access Program members get the update first through a waitlist, with a broader public rollout following shortly after, placing Meta in direct competition with similar audio enhancement tools already found on Apple's AirPods.
