Meta reports first quarter revenue of $36.5 billion, marking a 27 percent increase from the previous year and exceeding Wall Street expectations. The tech giant also sees net income soar by 117 percent to $12.4 billion. CEO Mark Zuckerberg calls it a good start to the year, pointing to healthy growth across the company's family of apps and continued progress on the metaverse.
The company currently integrates AI deeply into its platforms, with AI now delivering 30 percent of posts on Facebook and over 50 percent of content on Instagram. Zuckerberg notes that tens of millions of people are already trying the newly rolled out Meta AI assistant, which runs on the Llama 3 model and helps users answer complex queries, get recommendations, and create animations directly within Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger.
Looking forward, Meta plans to significantly increase its investments in artificial intelligence to become the world's leading AI service. Future AI initiatives include specialized creator tools to help influencers engage their communities and business-focused AI to assist customers with purchases and customer support. Zuckerberg expresses strong confidence that Meta is no longer just using AI to enhance social media, but is actively positioning itself as the top AI company in the world.
