Microsoft unveils Microsoft 365 Copilot, a new AI assistant that combines large language models with organizational data in the Microsoft Graph. This tool integrates directly into everyday applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams to turn simple text prompts into powerful productivity actions. The system operates within Microsoft's existing enterprise data security and privacy commitments to keep workplace information safe.
The technology works alongside employees to eliminate drudgery and free up time for creative tasks. For example, Copilot in Word writes, edits, summarizes, and creates documents based on brief prompts, pulling in relevant information from across the organization as needed. Early data from similar AI tools shows that 88 percent of users report higher productivity and 74 percent say they focus more on satisfying work.
Alongside the app-specific features, Microsoft introduces Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, a cross-app experience that works across the AI model, the application suite, and user data. Employees use natural language prompts to execute complex tasks, such as asking the chat to summarize a morning's meetings, emails, and chats into a cohesive status update for their team. This unified approach fundamentally changes how workers interact with their daily digital tools.
