Microsoft and Amazon Team Up to Connect Cortana and Alexa
Microsoft and Amazon team up in a first-of-its-kind collaboration to connect Cortana and Alexa.
Microsoft and Amazon announce a first-of-its-kind collaboration that connects Cortana and Alexa across their respective platforms. Users can access Alexa through Cortana on Windows 10 PCs, with Android and iOS support coming later, while Alexa users can invoke Cortana on Echo, Echo Dot, and Echo Show devices.
This cross-platform integration allows each assistant to play to its specific strengths. Cortana users simply say "Hey Cortana, open Alexa" to tap into Amazon shopping, manage orders, and use third-party Alexa skills. Conversely, Alexa users say "Alexa, open Cortana" to access world knowledge, Office 365 integration, calendar management, a daily glance, and location-based reminders.
CEO Satya Nadella emphasizes that making Cortana available everywhere remains a key priority for Microsoft. This unique partnership ultimately reflects a shared belief from both tech giants that when people and technology work together, everybody wins.
