Microsoft Brings GPT-4 Powered Bing AI Sidebar to Stable Edge Browser
Microsoft integrates the new Bing AI chatbot, powered by GPT-4, into the stable version of its Edge browser as a sidebar feature called Edge Copilot. The tool allows users to summarize web pages, compose content, and get contextual insights directly within the browser.
Microsoft releases the new Bing AI chatbot in the stable version of its Edge web browser, confirming the tool runs on OpenAI's newly launched GPT-4 model. Previously available only as a developer preview, the feature officially ships today as the "Edge Copilot," replacing the older "Discover" sidebar to provide users with an interactive AI assistant.
Users access the Edge Copilot by hovering over the Bing icon in the toolbar, which opens a sidebar that hides automatically when not in use. The AI chatbot offers two main functions, chat and compose, to provide intelligent suggestions and insights based on the context of the web page the user is currently visiting.
With this sidebar, users can summarize lengthy web content, compare information, generate text like LinkedIn posts or emails, and even convert code from one programming language to another. This move highlights a growing productivity trend in the tech industry, as Microsoft's release coincides with Google unveiling its own plans to incorporate generative AI across its Workspace suite.
