Microsoft Build 2019 Unveils New Developer Tools and Azure Updates

Microsoft unveils a range of new tools for developers at its annual Build 2019 conference in Seattle. The tech giant introduces Windows Terminal, a new application for command-line users that features GPU-accelerated text rendering, alongside an updated version of Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), with both arriving next month. Visual Studio also receives an upgrade through a new browser-based companion tool designed specifically for remote workers.
In the cloud and open source realm, Microsoft integrates Azure IoT Edge with Kubernetes and launches the Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) for general availability. The company collaborates with Red Hat to release Kubernetes Event-Driven Autoscaling (KEDA), an open source project that manages automated scaling for event-driven architectures across any cloud environment. Additionally, Microsoft rolls out Microsoft Search and Microsoft Graph to all users after a successful preview period.
Beyond developer environments and cloud infrastructure, Microsoft brings notable upgrades to its no-code business app builder PowerApps and its Power BI analytics service. This Build conference marks the first major gathering since Microsoft completed its massive $7.5 billion acquisition of GitHub, signaling a strong focus on integrating open source communities into the company's broader ecosystem.
