Microsoft Build 2023 Integrates Bing Search Into ChatGPT
Microsoft announces major updates at Build 2023, making Bing the default search experience for ChatGPT. The company also unveils a shared plugin platform with OpenAI to unify AI development.
Microsoft celebrates over 100 days of its AI-powered Bing by announcing major updates at the Microsoft Build 2023 conference. Users have already engaged in over half a billion chats and generated 200 million images, leading to an eightfold increase in daily downloads of the Bing mobile app since its launch.
The most significant reveal is the integration of Bing as the default search experience directly inside ChatGPT. This foundational update allows ChatGPT to provide timely, up-to-date answers grounded by web data and includes citations for users to verify information. The feature is rolling out immediately to ChatGPT Plus subscribers and will become available to free users soon through a simple plugin toggle.
Additionally, Microsoft and OpenAI are jointly committing to an interoperable plugin ecosystem that allows developers to build tools once and deploy them across ChatGPT, Bing, and various Microsoft Copilots. Bing is expanding its own plugin support to include new partners, building on earlier additions like OpenTable and Wolfram Alpha to create more magical and productive user experiences.
