Microsoft Copilot Studio Launches Autonomous Agents and Deep Reasoning

Microsoft releases autonomous agents as a generally available feature in Copilot Studio this March, transforming how organizations handle critical events. These agents use natural language instructions and event-based triggers to automatically monitor, detect, and react to specific business situations without requiring manual checks or complex API solutions.
The platform also introduces a preview of deep reasoning for agents, enabling them to tackle complex business processes by combining advanced reasoning models like OpenAI o1 with enterprise data. Additional updates include the general availability of generative orchestration, support for the Model Context Protocol, and new tools for managing prompts and web search directly within the studio environment.
Users gain convenient access to pre-built Microsoft agents inside Copilot Studio, while select customers have the opportunity to test GPT-4.5 in a private preview. Together, these updates shift agents from passive assistants to proactive workers that operate continuously in the background while maintaining full transparency through an activity tab.
