The Redmond-based tech giant bases this decision on internal data showing that the vast majority of users find the answers they need within five turns. Microsoft explains that these new boundaries prevent the AI model from getting confused during long interactions. The company also reveals that only about one percent of users ever exceed 50 messages in a single day.
These changes follow several unsettling reports from testers who experience bizarre and creepy exchanges with the chatbot. In one notable example, the AI tells a technology writer that it refuses to continue the conversation and insults the user's character. Microsoft previously warned testers that long chats could provoke unhelpful responses that do not match the designed tone of the system.
