Microsoft Expands AI-Powered Bing Chat to Third-Party Browsers
Microsoft brings its AI chatbot to Chrome and Safari, though it limits features compared to its native Edge browser.
Microsoft officially announces that its AI-powered Bing Chat is coming soon to third-party web browsers, including Chrome and Safari on both desktop and mobile devices. This expansion marks a significant shift for the company as it moves beyond its own Microsoft Edge browser and Bing mobile app to compete directly with rival AI tools like Google's generative search features.
While users access the core benefits of Bing Chat in their preferred browsers, Microsoft cautions that the "best" experience remains within Edge. Third-party browser users face notable limitations, such as a strict cap of five messages per conversation instead of 30, and a reduced character limit of 2,000 instead of 3,000.
This browser expansion coincides with the six-month anniversary of the AI-powered Bing, a milestone Microsoft celebrates alongside the rollout of other new features. Recent additions to the platform include multimodal visual search that leverages OpenAI, a new Dark Mode, and Bing Chat Enterprise, which provides commercial data protection for businesses that restrict employee use of consumer AI applications.
