Microsoft Hires Inflection AI Leader Mustafa Suleyman to Run Consumer AI Division

Microsoft taps Mustafa Suleyman to lead a new consumer AI group overseeing Copilot, Bing, and Edge. The move brings most of Inflection AI's staff to Microsoft while the startup shifts to a new business model.

Microsoft hires Mustafa Suleyman, the co-founder and chief executive of Inflection AI, to lead its new consumer AI division. Alongside Suleyman, Inflection AI co-founder Karén Simonyan joins Microsoft as chief scientist, and reports indicate that most of the startup's employees will transition to the tech giant as well.

In his new role as CEO of Microsoft AI, Suleyman oversees all consumer AI products and research, including Copilot, Bing, and Edge. He also takes responsibility for productizing the AI models that Microsoft licenses from OpenAI, bringing his extensive experience from co-founding DeepMind and building Inflection AI's advanced large language models.

Following this major talent acquisition, Inflection AI continues to operate under newly appointed CEO Sean White with a revised business model. The startup struggles to find an effective business model despite amassing over one million active users for its Pi chatbot and recently launching the highly capable Inflection-2.5 large language model.
