Microsoft Introduces Personal Vault for Extra OneDrive Security

Microsoft introduces a new security feature called Personal Vault for its OneDrive cloud storage service. This optional layer protects sensitive files by requiring strong authentication methods, such as a fingerprint, facial recognition, a PIN, or a code sent via text or email, before granting access.

Within the OneDrive app, Personal Vault appears as a special folder designed for highly sensitive documents like financial records. On Windows 10 computers, the feature creates a Bitlocker-encrypted area on the local hard drive to securely sync these protected files.

Alongside this security update, Microsoft doubles the storage limit for its $1.99 per month standalone OneDrive plan from 50GB to 100GB. Free users get access to Personal Vault as well, though with a strict limit on the number of files they store inside, and the feature rolls out globally to all platforms by the end of the year.
