Microsoft invests $1.5 billion in UAE-based AI company G42 to deliver advanced AI solutions across the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa. The partnership includes a $1 billion fund to boost regional AI developer skills.

Microsoft invests $1.5 billion in G42 for a minority stake, marking a major expansion of their strategic partnership to deliver advanced AI solutions across the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa. As part of this deal, Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith joins the G42 board of directors to help guide the collaboration. The partnership leverages the Microsoft Cloud to advance G42’s strategy of providing generative AI and next-generation infrastructure to sectors like financial services, healthcare, energy, government, and education.

This commercial partnership operates under a first-of-its-kind binding agreement with both the U.S. and UAE governments to ensure the secure, trusted, and responsible development of AI. Microsoft and G42 commit to complying with international trade, security, and business integrity laws while elevating the security framework of their joint international infrastructure. This Intergovernmental Assurance Agreement provides a structured framework to govern the complex regulatory aspects of their AI deployment.

Foundational to this expanded relationship is G42’s deep trust in Microsoft’s cloud platform, as the company shifts to use Microsoft Azure as its preferred technology partner. Beyond the direct investment, the two companies support the creation of a $1 billion fund dedicated to empowering developers and boosting AI skills in the UAE and broader region. This comprehensive collaboration positions G42 to enhance its value-added solutions for customers while driving widespread AI innovation.
