Microsoft, NVIDIA Invest $15 Billion in Anthropic for Massive Azure Expansion
Anthropic is bringing its Claude AI models to Microsoft Azure through a massive $30 billion compute commitment, backed by new $15 billion in joint investments from Microsoft and NVIDIA.
Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Anthropic announce major strategic partnerships that expand Claude's availability across Microsoft Azure. Anthropic commits to purchasing $30 billion of Azure compute capacity and contracts additional capacity up to one gigawatt. This massive infrastructure expansion broadens access to Claude and provides Azure enterprise customers with expanded model choice and new capabilities.
For the first time, NVIDIA and Anthropic establish a deep technology partnership to support Anthropic’s future growth. The two companies collaborate on design and engineering to optimize Anthropic models for top performance, efficiency, and total cost of ownership. Anthropic’s compute commitment initially includes up to one gigawatt of capacity using NVIDIA Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems.
Microsoft and Anthropic also expand their existing partnership so Microsoft Foundry customers access frontier Claude models like Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Opus 4.1, and Claude Haiku 4.5. This makes Claude the only frontier model available on the world’s three most prominent cloud services. As part of the deal, NVIDIA and Microsoft commit to invest up to $10 billion and $5 billion respectively in Anthropic, while Microsoft continues Claude access across GitHub Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and Copilot Studio.
