Microsoft Releases Windows 11 2023 Update to Expand Copilot AI Access
Microsoft is rolling out the Windows 11 2023 update to deliver its Copilot AI assistant to a broader audience. The update also converts the built-in Chat app into Microsoft Teams and reorganizes system components.
Microsoft officially releases the Windows 11 2023 update, also known as version 23H2, to bring the Copilot AI assistant to more users. While the company previously launched an AI preview in late September, that release only targeted last year's 22H2 update and leaves many standard users without the new features. This new rollout finally delivers Copilot directly into the operating system for anyone updating through Windows Update.
The expansion of Copilot comes after a somewhat confusing deployment strategy that started when Microsoft first announced "Windows Copilot" in May. The AI assistant acts as a central hub within Windows, integrating the functionality previously seen in Edge Copilot and other standalone tools. Copilot recently takes center stage at Microsoft's Surface event, overshadowing the actual hardware announcements.
Beyond the highly anticipated AI features, the update makes several notable changes to the Windows 11 interface. It transforms the legacy Chat application into a full version of Microsoft Teams that pins directly to the taskbar by default. Additionally, Microsoft reorganizes Windows 11 components under a new "System" label within the Start menu's "All apps" section and creates a dedicated page for these components in the main Settings app.
