Microsoft officially releases the Windows 11 2023 Update, known internally as 23H2, bringing a strong focus on artificial intelligence to the operating system. The highlight of this free update is Windows Copilot, an AI assistant powered by Bing Chat that integrates directly into the user interface. Beyond Copilot, artificial intelligence also enhances the Start menu and File Explorer by providing smart, recommended file suggestions to users.
This latest feature drop initially arrives as a preview on September 26 through an update to the existing Windows 11 22H2 version. Later in the fourth quarter, Microsoft rolls out the full Windows 11 23H2 cumulative update that bundles all of these new capabilities together. This phased approach means that users may not see every new feature immediately on their personal computers.
In addition to AI integrations, the update includes several quality-of-life improvements across the operating system. Users gain the ability to restore applications from a backup, and the Microsoft Store receives a dedicated section specifically for AI applications. The installation process takes approximately twenty to thirty minutes to complete, depending on the specific hardware of the PC.
