Microsoft Rolls Out Windows 11 Update With AI Copilot Assistant

Microsoft releases the next major update to its Windows 11 operating system, headlined by the introduction of an AI assistant called Copilot. This generative AI tool relies on large language models from Microsoft-backed OpenAI to create human-like text, answer questions, and perform actions directly within the operating system.
The Windows Copilot offers several PC-specific features that allow users to open applications, switch display settings like dark mode, enable Bluetooth, and summarize websites in the Edge browser. This integration brings advanced AI capabilities directly to the desktop, providing more detailed and functional responses than competing virtual assistants found on other platforms.
Despite Windows 11 accounting for only about 24% of current desktop PCs compared to Windows 10's 72% market share, Microsoft sees significant growth potential as the older system loses support in 2025. The company highlights that Windows remains a crucial foundation for its broader ecosystem, driving revenue through Microsoft 365 applications and serving as a springboard for its Azure cloud services.
