Microsoft Suspends Russian Sales While Expanding Ukraine Cyber and Humanitarian Aid
Microsoft maintains its suspension of new sales in Russia while committing over $35 million to humanitarian relief and cybersecurity defenses for Ukraine. The company also provides free Skype calling and extensive technical support to assist displaced citizens and targeted organizations.
Microsoft continues to suspend all new sales of products and services in Russia in response to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Alongside this ongoing sales freeze, the company commits over $35 million to support humanitarian assistance and relief efforts. This financial commitment includes more than $18 million worth of Microsoft technology provided to organizations like the Polish Humanitarian Action to address critical needs on the ground.
The technology giant actively strengthens Ukraine's digital defenses by using its RiskIQ capabilities to identify cybersecurity vulnerabilities in government systems. Microsoft shares a list of exposed systems with unpatched vulnerabilities with the Ukrainian government and deploys technical protections to dozens of targeted organizations. Additionally, Microsoft Disaster Response teams complete 67 projects in less than four weeks to assist government, nonprofit, and commercial groups operating in or assisting Ukraine.
Microsoft further supports Ukrainian citizens by extending free Skype calling into and out of the country for an additional two weeks, a service that already facilitates over 6.5 million minutes of calls. Employee donations are also making a massive impact, with the company matching contributions 2:1 to raise more than $13.5 million for key NGOs. These combined efforts focus on protecting people from cyberattacks and state-sponsored disinformation while delivering vital humanitarian support.
