Microsoft Unveils Copilot+ PCs and Autonomous AI Agents at Build 2024
Microsoft introduces a new category of AI-powered Windows PCs and advanced multimodal models that can analyze images and charts. The company also reveals upcoming autonomous AI agents designed to handle tasks independently.
Microsoft reveals a new category of Windows devices called Copilot+ PCs at its annual Build developer conference. The company claims these AI-focused computers are the fastest and most intelligent Windows PCs ever built, offering all-day battery life. A standout feature called Recall allows users to ask their PC to find virtually anything they have previously seen or done on their device.
The tech giant also introduces Phi-3-vision, a new multimodal AI model currently available in preview. This advanced model performs general visual reasoning tasks and interprets complex charts, graphs, and tables. Users can input an image and ask open-ended questions to receive detailed text responses from the AI.
Furthermore, Microsoft shares its vision for autonomous AI assistants known as agents or copilots. Unlike traditional chatbots that wait for direct text prompts, these agents act independently and trigger automatically based on specific events. For example, an agent can handle employee onboarding by greeting new hires and answering their questions without manual intervention.
