Microsoft unveils a completely new category of Windows computers called Copilot+ PCs, designed specifically to handle advanced artificial intelligence tasks directly on the device. These machines feature powerful new silicon equipped with a high-performance Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of over 40 trillion operations per second. This dedicated AI hardware allows the computers to run complex workloads up to 20 times faster and 100 times more efficiently than previous generations.
The new Copilot+ PCs include exclusive AI features that fundamentally change how users interact with their computers. A tool called Recall helps users find and remember things they have previously seen on their screens, while Cocreator enables near real-time AI image generation directly on the device. Additionally, Live Captions instantly translates audio from over 40 languages into English, making it easier than ever to bridge language barriers during video calls or while watching media.
A variety of thin and light devices from Microsoft Surface and partners like Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung are available for pre-order starting today. Prices for these computers begin at $999, with general availability officially kicking off on June 18. By outperforming Apple's MacBook Air 15" by up to 58% in sustained multithreaded performance and offering up to 22 hours of local video playback, Microsoft marks this release as the most significant change to the Windows platform in decades.
